バンコクに来るたびにカオサンを訪れましたが、タクシーを除くとチャオプラヤ・エクスプレス・ボートでしか行けないので、いつも昼間でした(ボートは夕方で終わりますから)。今回は、夜のカオサンを堪能したくて、このホテルに泊まりました。その昔、トン・ポーというレストランがありましたが、その跡に出来たのがこのホテルです。トン・ポーが好きだったので、ずっと気になってました。コンビニ横のエントランスから、確かにブティックホテルです。小さいながら、レセプションもロビーラウンジもスタイリッシュです。客室もそれぞれインテリアが異なるとか。このホテルの規模にしてはプールも素敵だし、お値段はちょっと高いけどリバービューの部屋なら初タイの人にもお勧めで来ます。Wi-Fi無料ですが、客室ではちょっと繋がりにくかったのが残念。そのせいか、ロビーラウンジでパチパチやってる人が多かったです。ホテルからカオサンまでの道筋には、レストランやマッサージ店も増え、人通りも多く、危険な感じはもうありません。昼間ならお寺を抜ける近道もできます。カオサン通りも昔に比べ、混沌・猥雑感が無くなって、綺麗になりました。チョット残念。夜だったら、カオサン通りに平行する一本北側のレストラン通りが、新しい観光地と言えるかも知れません。

My wife and I have made this our regular hotel on our yearly visits to Bangkok.After more than 10 visits we have always found it perfect for what we want.In past years we have found the staff and general operations a little clinical and efficient (business hotel like). This year however the staff were very warming and friendly, not sure what happened but we liked it even more this year.The rooms are a good size always clean like you would expect in any decent hotel.Shower is over a bath in most rooms, not sure if all of them, we don't like that much but it's OK. Shower works well with good pressure.Only really 2 complaints.1) lighting in the room is quite poor but this is typical, not sure why but we never seem to find a hotel that has good lighting. In the past I have taken the lamp shades off the lamps to get more light so my wife can do makeup although the last couple of years we've started traveling with bright LED bulbs from home and swap them out for our stay.I've done that in a few hotels and none of them seem to mind.2) The hallways are tiled and have bad acoustics, the heavy wooded doors make a loud bang that echos down the whole place if you're not gentle shutting them. Actually this isn't really much of a problem to us because we can shut the door quietly as do most people plus it's not a big hotel and the halls are not long so there's not too many people.I'd hate to be there if there was a heap of kids staying next door though.The location is brilliant, Koh San Road and Soi Rambuttri are only 5 minutes walk away, these are essential places to visit on your first trip to Bangkok.Right across the road there are a number of small restaurants and bars that mostly cater for the local Thais which makes a good contrast to Koh San Road that target Tourists.You will see in other reviews that people complain about the noise from the bars across the road, in all the years we've been staying there we have never heard any noise but that could be because we're often out there helping to make the noise. But really it's only the rooms that face out onto the street that you will hear the music and it's not every night mostly only weekends. Just ask for a room that faces north away from the road or better still one looking out over the river. The river rooms cost more but the view or the boats is amazing and well worth it.Being right on the river you can jump on a river taxi to travel cheaply and quickly across a good part of the city. China Town, Silom and all other districts that border the river are easily accessible in a fraction of the time a taxi would take for only a few baht.There is also a canal not too far away where you can take a boat every few minutes that will take you into the shopping area where Central World, Pratunam market, Platinum, Pantip Plasa, MBK, etc are. This boat trip will only take 15 or 20 minutes although you will need to be happy to climb on a crowded boat with the local commuters.Also if you transfer to another boat, Sukhumvit is only a few more minutes further away. If you want to try the canal, get a taxi or tuk tuk and ask them to take you to Panfa Leelard pier. Actually it should only cost about 50 baht but a tuk tuk probably won't do it for less than 100.This pier is the start point so if there's a boat there jump on, it must be the right one, when it takes off someone will ask you for a few baht, 15 or 20 I think. The boat will stop a few times to let people on and off. When it stops completely and everyone gets off you will be very near Central World, and Platinum, 5 minutes walk to either.To go back just do the opposite but remember the boats finish operating at about 7pm'ish I think.So all in all the hotel with a few set backs is a great place to stay.Over the years we have taken more than 20 friends along to stay there and everyone has loved it.We all would highly recommend the Navalai River Resort.
