I really wanted to like Neo Don Donburi, especially because the auntie working at the front of the house was incredibly kind and welcoming. I ordered Set A, the scallion beef donburi, which came with miso soup, three pieces of fried chicken, a soft-cooked egg, and green tea. The bowl arrived with a generous amount of chopped scallions, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, once I got past the mound of scallions, the beef underneath was fairly underwhelming. The quality and flavor were consistent with the price, but nothing stood out. I also ordered the chicken wings, deep-fried fish, and French fries à la carte. The fish, fried chicken, and fries were all forgettable, but the biggest issue was the chicken wings. They were undercooked and bloody inside, which I did not notice until I had already eaten half of one. That is a serious food-safety concern and something the kitchen needs to address immediately. The dining area is also quite small and can become cramped during the lunch rush. Overall, I would give Neo Don Donburi 3 out of 5 stars, mainly because of the wonderful auntie at the front. Her hospitality was the highlight of the visit, but the food quality—especially the undercooked chicken—made it difficult to rate the restaurant any higher.
