Found an underrated hidden gem for Nonya delicacies in the Bukit Timah area, Nonya Delicatessen at Beauty World! The Nasi Kunyit was excellent. The chicken was very tender, and the sauce was flavourful with a hint of coconut milk without being overly spicy. Their homemade sambal was also unique and different from the usual ones outside- slightly sweet, fragrant, and full of spices that complemented the rice perfectly. The Laksa was another standout dish. The broth was rich, creamy, and aromatic without feeling too heavy. You could really taste the depth from the spices and coconut base, and the flavours were very well balanced. The gravy coated every bite nicely, making it super comforting and satisfying. Portion size was generous too, especially for the price. For dessert, the Orh Nee (yam paste) was the highlight for me (sorry no photo for this as the food was already in my stomach). The best compliment for Asian desserts is “not too sweet,” and this was exactly that. You can tell it’s made from fresh yam instead of pre-made paste. The coconut cream added a smooth and creamy texture that paired perfectly with the yam. Food was served very quickly, we got everything within five minutes. The prices are also very affordable for the portion sizes given. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the seating was comfortable too. Definitely worth visiting if you’re around Beauty World! You know that the food is good when people start queuing up 30 min before the stall opens. Nasi kunyit was prefect. Chicken leg was tender, rice fluffy, curry fragrant and lemak, chilli was sweet and there was achar although you can’t see it in the photo. Service was polite and quick even though there was the pressure of a snaking queue. Seating was at another unit but it was relatively empty as I was there early. I ordered the Nasi Kunyit with lime juice (SGD11.90). Chicken is fall off the bone tender and the curry sauce tasted similar to thickened Nyonya Laksa soup. It’s spicy but delicious. Worth coming back to try other dishes. They also sell different varieties of Peranakan kuehs at the cashier’s counter. Can use GrabPay and is self-service. They have 2 seating areas, 1 right next to the cashier’s counter and another ~80m away. We sat at the seating area ~80m away and it is relatively clean. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: SGD 10–20 Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3
