There’s a kind of cosmic joke in life. I call it “wrong pairing.” The marriage that shouldn’t have happened, the job that never fit, the taste that makes you wonder whether it’s you or the universe messing around. If you ever visit this place, you’d know exactly what I mean. This restaurant, OMG JJ CM, claims to serve Asian curry, but what they’re really selling is an experience. And definitely not the one you expect. Two generations can walk in and leave with completely different stories. For me, the whole place looks like a Hong Kong funeral shop. The décor has that uncanny resemblance that makes you stop and think, “Wait am I here for lunch or to file paperwork for my ancestors?” Honestly, the renovation crew probably came straight from the old-school funeral shops in Hung Hom — the kind locals call “cheung sang shops,” the ones that deal with funeral offerings and afterlife goods. With the recent Hong Kong funeral-themed movies, The Last Dance, they could easily film the sequel right here. Then they mix in different layers of Hong Kong culture, a bit of dai pai dong, a bit of 70s golden age. This tiny shop is juggling more concepts than a TVB scriptwriter rushing a deadline. Every corner feels like a different story, and every story feels like a misunderstanding that somehow became permanent. To be fair, the most successful part is their name, it makes you slightly nervous in a way that fits the whole concept perfectly. And the food? Food that looks like it was made for posting during the HK Lunar July. There’s always a long line out the door. That’s exactly why I call it a perfect example of life’s “wrong pairing” joke.
