Stumbled on this gem of a restaurant during an outing to Seoul's Hongdae neighborhood. The place was so good that I'm slightly nervous to even share it. The place is small, cozy and offers a fusion-like take on rice noodle soups. We came for lunch around 12:30pm and grabbed a spot right by the bar/kitchen so that we could see the chef work his magic. The menu is small but mighty, so we went with the house recommendations: the brisket rice noodles (one spicy and one non spicy, both in broth) and a shared plate of assorted tempura. The noodles were excellent, the broths were clean-yet-flavorful and the tempura was very creative, crunchy and tasty. You can tell a lot of thought went into the pairing of the flavors. I will (unfortunately) not be back in Seoul for a little while, but I look forward to visiting Okza again when I do. Pro tip: if you are looking for a nice afternoon in Hongdae,walk the length of the Gyeongui Forest Line Park until you reach its end. Then treat yourself to a lunch at Okza.
