I stayed in Paapu Next Door in August 2025. This guesthouse is just a 5 to 10-minute walk from Tha Pae Gate. When I arrived, it was pouring rain, but the staff kindly let me check in an hour early. There’s no lift here, so be ready for stairs. If you’ve got heavy luggage, ask for a room on the lower floors. Paapu only opened in early 2025, so everything still feels new. I booked the Queen Room with Balcony, 38 square meters. The king bed was impressive — comfortable linen, loads of pillows, and a mattress that honestly rivals some three-star hotels. The wooden frame is stylish, but the antique wooden window placed on the frame could be a trip hazard for guests with mobility challenges. The air-conditioning is strong and cools quickly. There’s also a standing fan for when you want just a breeze. WiFi was fast when it worked. It tended to drop out often. The TV connects to streaming Apps if you have your own account. A huge wardrobe offers plenty of space, though it did have a musty smell. The kitchenette is well equipped — fridge, microwave, kettle, crockery — perfect for heating up night market snacks. But there’s no sink inside the room; washing is done in a shared area outside, which had an unpleasant smell. One of my favorite features was the large wooden dining table. It doubled as a workspace, and honestly, it was the most comfortable desk setup I’ve had on this trip. Fresh flowers and plants were a nice touch, though they attracted bugs and mosquitoes. There were ants crawling along the floor edges, and mosquitoes managed to get inside even with doors and windows closed. Noise can be an issue. A bar next door plays music until 12am at night, especially rowdy on weekends. Bring earplugs if you’re sensitive. Housekeeping is also a weak point - I swept and found a lot of hair on the floor upon arrival. Cleaning is only done every three to four days, and only after 1 pm. The bathroom, though, was great. Clean white tiles, strong water pressure, a rainfall shower, and even a digital water heater that let me set the temperature to the exact degree. Plenty of towels provided too. Paapu Next Door has a lot going for it — spacious, stylish rooms, thoughtful design touches, and an affordable price point. On the flip side, cleanliness and insects are real issues. If you don’t mind some quirks, this guesthouse could be a good budget-friendly stay in Chiang Mai. For me, I’d call it a solid option, but one that needs a bit more polish to really shine. The interior design is so tasteful! Using lots of colors isn't difficult, but striking a balance is, and Paapu nailed it! The room is not big, but it is fully functional. You can feel her care and it is very quiet. Service: 5
I loved my stay here. It's not like a place you temporarily book, but rather feels like your own space/room in your home, super comfy, laid-back, and Paapu is super helpful about everything you may ask. She cares a lot about the guests and the place. I shared something I saw somewhere else from my previous stays that might be useful there too, and saw she already brought some people taking measurements etc. already during my stay, constantly making the place better and better. Plus, location is great. Service: 5
