I recently visited Pyongan Dumpling House for an early Saturday lunch around 11 AM. The restaurant is tucked away in a basement building, yet its reputation clearly precedes it; its long-standing recognition across various review platforms is well-deserved. At that early hour, the dining room was pleasantly quiet and uncrowded. I ordered the Mandu Jeongol (Dumpling Hot Pot). The broth has a distinctly clean and refined flavor profile. While it might lack the heavy, deeply simmered richness that some expect from a traditional hot pot, it is highly enjoyable for its neatness. The hot pot comes with six generously sized dumplings. I found the filling to be a bit under-seasoned on its own, but this is easily remedied by adding a touch of the provided soy sauce, which balances the flavors perfectly. The accompanying side dishes—particularly the shredded radish, kimchi, and potato salad—were fresh, well-prepared, and complemented the main dish nicely. Additionally, the interior is kept impeccably clean, and the staff is genuinely friendly and attentive. If you prefer your dumpling dishes to have a clean, subtle, and comforting taste rather than an overpowering one, this is a very solid choice.
