Redhill Braised Duck Kway Chap at Simon Road Donkey and I were searching for dinner options on Google Maps when we noticed Redhill Braised Duck Kway Chap at Simon Road. It had not appeared in our earlier searches of the area, but the strong rating caught our attention, so we decided to cycle over and give it a try. When we arrived, both of us felt a wave of nostalgia. We remembered this unit as the long standing Soon Soon Teochew Porridge. After learning more about the place, we found out that the heritage brand from Redhill Hawker Centre with over 40 years of history has now moved into a modern air conditioned restaurant concept here, offering a quiet and cooling ambience. The service was excellent. A friendly waiter recommended that we try their Braised Pork Trotter, which is a local favourite. We changed our plan and ordered the pork trotter 8.00, a 2 pax Kway Chap Set 15.60, and an extra plate of Duck Meat 6.00. The food arrived hot and the quality impressed us. The kway soup was fragrant with a gentle herbal note, and the braised ingredients were full of flavour. The duck meat was tender and juicy, living up to the praise we had read. The pork trotter was the standout, slow cooked until the meat fell easily from the bone, with skin that was soft and rich in collagen. We paired the meal with a Kopi C 2.00, and the whole experience was satisfying. The bill came to 31.60 without GST and service charges, paid via NETS, which we felt was great value for the standard of Teochew fare.
