Electric atmosphere down here, I’ve made it my mission to check out a bunch of live music bars on my trip and this tops the list! Excellent service from the staff. Really talented musicians who could play anything. Got on and sang No Particular Place to Go, a Chuck Berry tune, and boy did the band rock! Thank you so much the next time I’m in Chiang Mai I’ll for sure be back! Price per person: ฿200–400 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I am a blues guitar player who spent years playing in the US (Simsbury, CT area), and I know the difference between a tourist attraction and a real musical home. Last year, I visited the famous jazz spots in Chiang Mai (like North Gate) and honestly, I was disappointed. It felt like a circus—crowded, hyped, and technically skilled but lacking genuine spirit. I was searching for 'the pocket,' not a show. Then I found Soi Dog Blues Bar. From the moment I saw the photos, I felt a warmth that the other places lacked. I grabbed my cheap guitar and headed over for the Sunday Open Jam. I met Mark, the owner—a genuine American gentleman who sets the tone for the whole room. He got me on the list immediately. No ego, no 'interrogation,' just music. I plugged in for a 12-bar shuffle in C, threw in my signature lines, and instantly connected with the band. As I've always said, you can know someone in a few seconds of jamming better than days of talking. If you are a musician looking for a 'monkey scene' or Instagram hype, go elsewhere. But if you are looking for authentic blues, a welcoming community, and a place that feels like home (even if you just moved to Charoen Mueang like me), this is the place.
