Visited Yishun’s Sakunthala’s and ordered the Panipuri, fish sambal meal, omelette, crab soup, and thosai. The thosai was okay, but the coconut chutney was too watery. The crab soup had fresh crab meat, but the flavor was very bland overall. The Panipuri was disappointing — the potato filling tasted over-mashed and stale, with no flavor at all. A few items like chopped onions and omam podi were also missing. Overall, the preparation and seasoning need improvement across several dishes. Fresh ingredients alone aren’t enough if the cooking and flavor balance are off. Hope the restaurant looks into this! Price per person: $40–50

I recently visited Sakunthala’s and had a mixed experience that I can only hope the management will take seriously. We ordered a variety of dishes, including fish sambal, chicken thosai, naan, masala tea, and three types of fried rice (egg, seafood, and ikan bilis). To be fair, the Indian dishes were decent and met expectations, no major issues there. The masala tea was especially good and stood out as the highlight of the meal. However, the fried rice dishes were extremely disappointing. The egg and ikan bilis fried rice arrived quickly, which we appreciated as they were meant for kids. But both dishes looked identical and, more importantly, tasted nothing like fried rice. They had a strong briyani/ghee rice flavor as if pre-cooked spiced rice was simply repurposed and mixed with egg or ikan bilis. This is not what anyone expects when ordering fried rice. The egg fried rice was barely touched by my child. The ikan bilis had an unpleasant, almost unclean taste, making the dish inedible. Both plates were left unfinished. When I raised this with the staff, the explanation was disappointing. First, I was told it was “basmati rice,” which completely missed the point. I am fully aware of what basmati rice is, the issue is the taste, not the grain. Then the explanation changed to “ghee rice.” This only made things worse why is ghee rice being used as a base for egg fried rice? This kind of response feels dismissive rather than helpful. If you’re going to serve fried rice, make fried rice not repurposed spiced rice and not excuses when customers call it out. A long-standing establishment should be able to acknowledge feedback honestly instead of offering inconsistent explanations. I’ve noticed from other reviews that responses often say “we will do better.” The question is, are real improvements actually being made, or are these just standard replies? Customers come for good food and an honest dining experience. It’s understandable if a dish falls short occasionally, but it’s not acceptable to deflect feedback with questionable explanations. I hope the management takes this seriously and reviews both the food preparation and how feedback is handled. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

I am very disappointed with the service I order a dinner for my family . Today was my younger sister birthday and she requested to order from Sakunthala's Restaurant but in the end the food is still there and no one follow up in the app it shows that we have already received the food. Foodpanda has disappointed us with their service. Is okay we are all in hunger and they just refund our money. No customer service very disappointed. Will never recommend the restaurant again.
