This competently prepared Khao Moo Krob deserves a review of it's own even though I don't patronize it regularly. The roasted pork belly here resembles the 'sio bak' or 'siu yuk' that frequent travellers to Asia may recognize when they order charsiu rice. It has the requisite layer of fat although the pork skin isn't quite as crispy as others I've tried. The Cantonese style dried pork sausage ( or lap cheong) has a tougher outer skin than it's other Asian counterparts but is as soft, fatty and sweet on the inside as expected. Don't forget to add a teaspoon of their wonderfully fragrant nam prik pao, works perfectly with any bbq meat and also provides the added zing! Lathered over all of this is a rust colored honeyed sauce that has the distinctly five spice perfume. Each restaurant has it's own glaze sauce concoction and in my opinion, this is what sets each establishment apart. This iteration definitely works for me! Accompanying all of this is a bowl of clear consomme which is surprisingly tasty, unlike the bland soups that are often served elsewhere almost as an afterthought.
