If you’re anywhere near Chiang Mai Gate and you love a good retro vibe, Sax Music Pub is an absolute must. The place has a cool, lived-in atmosphere with classic music groups posters covering the walls, and the soundtrack is pure gold—60s and 70s favorites with bands like The Doors, Johnny Cash, English Punk, plus that Vietnam-era rock playlist vibe that hits perfectly if you’re into that era. The bar itself is spacious and fun, with a big pool table, great energy, and it’s usually busy for a reason. You get a really nice mix of local tourists and long-term older expats, and the crowd is always solid—friendly, relaxed, and drama-free. The staff are awesome—super welcoming, fast, and genuinely upbeat. I’ve never had a single problem here, which says a lot for a popular place. And the food? Excellent Thai food, and on Fridays they run specials like ribs or spaghetti (and other rotating options), which makes it even better for a regular Friday night out. Come early Fridays, because they run out quick, the place is that popular. Great music, great people, great food, and a proper Chiang Mai Retro bar atmosphere. Highly recommended. This bar completely turned our night around. We were about to head home, exhausted from the overcrowded street markets, when we heard live music coming from this place. The guy playing on 21/12 was amazing, the drinks were cheap, and the staff were super friendly. We had a fantastic time. Highly recommended! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
