In the sweltering heat of Seoul in 2024, after a long walk through Seoul Forest, I was craving something cold like shaved ice. Unfortunately, all the nearby dessert spots were fully booked, so we settled for iced coffee instead. Seomtaleu, originally from Jeju Island, immediately caught my eye with its beautiful display of desserts upon entering. It was hard to resist! We ordered two Americanos, a Hallabong (Jeju citrus) ADE, a blueberry tart, and a grape tart. To be honest, while the desserts looked enticing, the flavor didn’t quite live up to expectations. The fruit tarts weren’t particularly memorable, and the ADE was overly sweet with too much fruit pulp, which made it a bit overwhelming. Perhaps it’s a flavor profile that resonates more with local tastes, but it didn’t suit ours as much. Despite the underwhelming flavors, the atmosphere of Seomtaleu was cozy, and it was a nice place to rest after a hot day. If you're into Jeju-inspired desserts or looking for a comfortable cafe to unwind in, it might still be worth a visit. Just be mindful that the flavors might not suit everyone’s palate. The tarts are very good! I had the egg cream coffee, which was bitter and sweet. A good combo with the tarts! Meal type: Other Price per person: ₩10,000–20,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
