“휴식을 통해 생각과 마음을 재생할 수 있는 공간” (A place to rest your mind) Opening recently in December 2020, Seonhyu Coffee is another venture to enter the regenerated north western suburb of Namgajawa (남가자와동), close to cafe hotspots Mangwon-dong (망원동) and Yeon-hui dong (연희동). While the presentation and interior design are strictly traditional, from the bamboo woven tea trays to the minhwa (민화) folk painting inspired logo, the focus here is on speciality filter coffee. Run enthusiastically by Speciality Coffee Association (SCA) accredited baristas they procure the majority of their beans through Seoul based distributor “Coffee me up” (커피미업), offering everything from Cup of Excellence (CoE) Geishas to rare Yemen varieties. At the time of visiting the offering included: 1)Costa Rica Puente Geisha, Red Honey Process, 1650m Altitude 2)Colombia Finca La Reina Rum Aged, Castillo Variety, Natural + Rum Aged Process, 1500m Altitude 3)Colombia, Java Variety, Natural Carbonic Maceration Process Accompanying the coffee menu in a rare but successful combination, the team at Seonhyu produce a full range of Korean confectionary (한과) in-house, including traditional classics chestnut (율란), honey (모약과) and dried persimmon (곶감단지) cakes.
