A Hidden Gem for French Food and Wine in Cheongju Sleek is a rare find—a true hidden gem for lovers of wine and casual French cuisine in Cheongju, a city not exactly known for being expat-friendly. If you're searching for a relaxed wine spot that doesn’t break the bank, this place won’t disappoint. The pâté, while missing liver, still delivered plenty of flavour thanks to crushed pistachios that added a delightful texture and depth. It made for a surprisingly solid appetiser. But the standouts for me were the salmon quiche and the chicken Diane—both cooked to near perfection. The quiche had just the right amount of salt, with a flaky, buttery crust that the chef prepares himself. As for the chicken Diane, it was beautifully executed: the skin crisp, the meat juicy and tender, and the buttery cream sauce with button mushrooms was rich without being overpowering. A charming touch—the food is served on vintage plates from the owner’s mother’s personal collection. It elevated the whole experience and somehow made everything taste even better. It’s clear this chef knows what he’s doing. While part of me wishes more people knew about this spot, I also loved the quiet, intimate vibe tucked away in a residential corner of town. A gentle reminder/warning: they use super thin Zalto glasses so you’d better not break those expensive crustal pieces. The wine list leans conservative, heavy on Old World pinots, but there are some nice surprises, including cult labels and a few standout New World options.
