Ordered takeaway half steamed chicken ($19.50) with additional braised eggs ($0.80 each), liver ($1), and gizzard ($1). Came on a public holiday just before the lunch crowd, so luckily didn’t have to wait long. The rice was good and fragrant. The chicken, however, was a bit inconsistent, some parts were quite dry. The sauce poured over the chicken was more of a gravy consistency rather than the traditional mix of soy sauce, sesame oil, and chicken stock. Tasted a bit like oyster sauce, though personally I still prefer the traditional style. The chilli also had a slight sourness to it that tasted a bit off, not the vinegary kind. Overall it was okay. Taste is subjective though, and I’d still recommend giving it a try, maybe you’ll enjoy it more than I did. Meal type: Brunch Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

I waited around 30mins for a plate of chicken rice. To be honest, I was quite irritated as it was my first time here and I don’t understand why the preparation took so much time. I almost gave up and walk away, but after I tried the food, I was having a second thoughts. In term of food language, the chicken was tender and juicy. I was unable to comprehend why it reminds me of Tian Tian chicken rice. For $4 there is really nothing to complain in term of quality and the portion was generous as well. Also, the soup was peppery, quite different from the usual soup you get from ordering chicken rice. And for these reason, I gave Shi Mei Hainanese Chicken Rice 4 stars
