Under various different names, the duo behind Shortcut Roasters have been active in the coffee scene since the early 2000s. Their latest venture, opened in May 2021, saw a complete rehaul of an existing warehouse on their roasting factory site in Goyang, north of Seoul. Designed by café interior veteran GGJH (공간지훈) the minimalist concept incorporates a mezzanine flooring system, four cubic service counters and exposed structural steel from the original structure. All the furnishings have been carefully selected to match each seating area, from stainless steel stools, long black sofas and retro Breuer B-32 styled desk chairs. Keeping with the minimalist theme, the design plays on contrasting light, from dimly lit light boxes shining out from the walls, behind tables and chairs to the original warehouse windows flooding the space with natural light from the second floor. Roasting on an Easyster 15kg Korean manufactured coffee roaster they currently have the following seasonal line up of two blends and three single origins: 1) Madagascar (Guatemala, Colombia, Ethiopia) 2) Phiphi Island (Ethiopia, El Salvador) 3) Ethiopia (Geisha Variety, Oramia Guji Region, Washed, 1600m Altitude) 4) Kenya (SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11 Variety, Fully Washed, Kirinyaga Region, 1450m Altitude) 5) Costa Rica (Obata Variety, Natural, 1500m Altitude) Behind the counter: All black Hario V60 hand drip bar, three Etzinger etzMAX-m grinders and a VBM Technique R 3-Group espresso machine.
