Somboon Seafood at Pathum Wan is a reliable choice for a satisfying Thai seafood dinner in central Bangkok. We ordered a generous spread: the signature curry crab, prawn with glass noodles, grilled squid, tom yum goong, steamed seabass, crab fried rice and fried morning glory. The curry crab was the star of the meal, with fresh crab in Somboon’s rich, fragrant yellow curry-and-egg sauce. The prawn with glass noodles was aromatic and savoury, while the steamed seabass was light, fresh and a good contrast to the richer dishes. The grilled squid was nicely charred, and the tom yum goong brought the familiar hot, sour and spicy kick expected from a classic Thai soup. Crab fried rice and morning glory completed the meal perfectly and made the spread especially good for sharing. It is pricier than a local neighbourhood seafood place, but the quality, variety and central location make it worthwhile for a group meal.
