I recently used a $100 dining voucher from the Amex Platinum program at Straits Bar for takeaway. I ordered Sambal Fried Rice ($28), a Grilled Beef Fillet Steak Sandwich ($38), and a Braised Lamb Curry Basmati Rice Bowl ($34). To my surprise, a 10% service charge was added, even for takeaway. When I questioned this, the manager explained it was recently implemented for Amex voucher users. Additionally, there was a 9% GST and another 10% surcharge for non-Tower Club members, leaving me with an out-of-pocket expense of $31 despite the voucher. At $131 total, I had high expectations for portion size and culinary quality. Unfortunately, the portions were dismal—barely enough to feed a child—and the food tasted mediocre at best. It was a thoroughly disappointing takeaway experience and felt like a complete rip-off. I will not be patronizing Straits Bar again. Food: 1
