Dining at Sugyeongsa was one of the culinary highlights of our time in Gyeongju. The restaurant is beautifully designed, calm, elegant, and thoughtfully integrated into its surroundings, creating an atmosphere that feels both refined and welcoming. What impressed us most was the creativity and execution of the food. Their set menu can be prepared vegetarian or fully vegan, and every course felt meticulous, inventive, and deeply satisfying rather than simply “adapted.” The flavors were layered and sophisticated, with clear respect for ingredients and presentation. The service was equally exceptional — warm, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely proud of what they are creating here. It is rare to find a newer restaurant operating at this level of confidence and detail so early on. For anyone searching for outstanding vegan or vegetarian dining in Gyeongju, especially near Hwangridan-gil, Sugyeongsa deserves serious attention. Thank you for making our dinner so special. Korean restaurant with a very very small menu, but great atmosphere and friendly service. I came here specifically to try the vegetarian lotus root japchae dish. The server made sure to kindly double check if I wanted it vegan or with egg. I had high expectations for the dish which it honestly did not fully meet, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. And I appreciate restaurants that try to cater to vegans and vegetarians, especially as it is not common in Korea. The entrance area looks really cool, and the big windows are great for people watching. The seats by the window are also perfect if you’re eating alone. Overall a nice place for a quick lunch and a break away from the super busy Hwangnidan-gil shopping street. Meal type: Lunch Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian options: Vegetarian/vegan option. The menu is very small to begin with, and they only have one menu option that can be fully veganized.

A lovely hidden gem in Gyeongju, with great options for vegetarians and vegans too I came across this restaurant quite by chance while walking towards the bus stop in Gyeongju. I had originally been looking for somewhere vegetarian or vegan and had only found two options, so discovering this lovely place unexpectedly felt like a real gem. The atmosphere is warm, modern, and genuinely cosy. The wooden interior, soft lighting, and large windows create such an inviting space, and it is a pleasure to sit inside and look out. It immediately felt comfortable and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious, and as a vegetarian, I was especially pleased to find that they offer genuinely vegan options as well, not just vegetarian ones. There was also a sign outside mentioning that vegetarian options are available, which was very appreciated. The dishes were beautifully presented and clearly prepared with care. What made the experience even better was the service. The owner spoke very good English and made me feel welcome straight away. It was such a wonderful find at the end of the day and honestly brightened up an otherwise rainy day. A truly excellent discovery in Gyeongju, and somewhere I would happily return to.
