Enjoyed the Meeze and some breads. There was a long wait for desert but it was worth it. Apart from that service was fine. Sadly the table next to us appeared to be there only for the beer. Halfway through our meal one of them collected MacDonalds so they then sat and ate fast food. Not a good image. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 1

Perhaps the first sign that this luncheon would go the way it ought've was that Sultans Table did not have a signboard. Instead, as we soon found out, it was, in somewhat shady fashion, hiding like a petulant child in the coattails of a North Indian restaurant that, apart from serving its own fare, also offered Turkish and Mexican food on a separate menu. At first I thought the tout who was trying to get us to sit at the outdoor verandah was gunning to poach us from the actual restaurant, before realizing that this was merely some sort of cuisine-laundering operation, presumably for cost-cutting reasons. And we all know that saying about cooks and broths: having this many menus did not bode well on that front. Nevertheless, we persisted owing to the size of our party and the prevailing circumstances, viz. the scorching midday sun, which rendered any attempts at finding alternative venues an unattractive proposition. Inside, far from being a long-awaited balm to our rapidly overheating bodies, the 1980s-style air-conditioning made the air bitingly cold; the sort of bone-deep, enervating chill that promises an incipient illness in its miasmatic wake. We were handed the bright yellow menus containing the Turkish and Mexican dishes. The pictures therein of the Turkish menu options, undoubtedly sourced from a place other than the kitchens of this establishment, looked nice enough in that generic Turkish restaurant way. The Mexican (and Italian!!!) menu items, however, were exercises in painful mediocrity, with their piles of supermarket freezer fries offered as generic sides for all their school-lunch-esque offerings. In any case, we put in our orders and waited some thirty minutes for the first dishes to appear. Tasting notes follow: The mezze, comprising the usual suspects, looked and tasted like they'd been extracted from preservative-laden jars of off-the-shelf supermarket dips. The measly single lavas provided was hardly enough, even for the meagre amount provided for the price. The limp pieces of iceberg lettuce littered gracelessly around the sad lumps of ice-cream-scooped mezze further detracted from the dish's appeal. The meat platter was similarly undersized, though the chicken breast was cooked to a respectable tenderness, and the kebabs were decent in a Macdonalds kind of way. The chicken mandi was substantial but the chicken largely dry. Dessert was not ordered but came in the form of complimentary sticks of mango and chocolate kulfi; though the sticks of mango kulfi appeared somewhat oxidized from their long sleep in some long-suffering freezer soon to become fully buried in its own accumulated frost, and did not, in any case, taste like mango. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: SGD 20–30 Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 2
