The atmosphere could be described as pleasant, harmonious, and peaceful. There was a lovely view of the Mekong and Laos across the river. What marred the experience was the floor, which was completely filthy with fallen fries, serving dishes, and corn tortillas (This is what it looked like). The waitstaff simply trampled over it, turning the wooden boards into wooden boards covered in mashed potatoes. Unbelievable. My mild spicy beef wasn't hot anymore, but lukewarm, and the mildness I had requested was clearly forgotten. It was so incredibly spicy that I felt like I'd lost my sense of taste for two hours. The kitchen seemed completely overwhelmed by our two small dishes. My wife ordered a raw shrimp salad, the shrimp having been "cooked" with lemon. It was completely lacking in flavor. They finally sent us a tray with salt, pepper, chili oil, and other things after we asked for it. Unfortunately, this only happened after we paid. If the restaurant had been busy, they could have excused it as being stressed, but we were practically alone. The entire staff was sitting near the entrance, laughing loudly. Otherwise, it was pleasantly quiet. Well, after two beers and two small dishes, the fun was over for us when the bill came to 525 baht. Anyone who asks how much we tipped will be met with a gauntlet. Twice over, never again. Yesterday was the last straw. Waitresses who don't see the piles of trash on the floor and even trample them down should be fired. If I were the owner, I'd act fast, otherwise this place will go downhill fast. I'd close for 14 days, have the wooden floors and all the gaps thoroughly cleaned, and fire everyone, including the chef. A "Hot Beef with Spicy Souse" is not a cold, stale, tough, and barely seasoned dish. It should be grilled. I'm still searching for the flavor in the bits of meat stuck between my teeth. And there wasn't even a toothpick to be found. I'd say it was cooked without any seasoning, and far too briefly. I don't know how these many relatively good reviews came about. Either these people eat even worse at home, or they were hired by the staff. With that said... Three tips for the boss: 1) Clean up the mess before the ship sinks. 2) Keep reminding the staff and, at least in a tourist town, hire one or two English-speaking servers. It's embarrassing when the beef turns out to be kangaroo meat. So sad. It happened yesterday. He's still wondering why we laughed so heartily. Even my Thai wife, who only speaks a little English, noticed the faux pas. 3) Install a wooden ramp from the path up into the restaurant and another one on the street leading to the sidewalk. It would make things much easier for wheelchair users. Price per person: ฿200–400 Vegetarian options: Yes
