I don’t know why, but every major hospital seems to have a Saint Mary’s Bakery. My absolute favorite is their QQ black sugar mochi grilled rice cake. I have no idea when it started getting popular, but after I happened to pass by one, went in once, and tried it, I got completely hooked. They also have a wide variety of breads that are pretty impressive, and then there are things like snow plum maidens (the ones with strawberry inside) and red bean daifuku. The red bean daifuku is a bit on the sweet side, but having one occasionally still feels like pure happiness. The only downside is that this particular shop is located in a hospital, so there are a lot of elderly customers. The staff moves pretty slowly, though they’re also very patient.
