Tai Cheong Bakery felt like one of those classic Hong Kong food stops where the reputation is built around doing one thing consistently well over decades. The shop itself is small, busy and very straightforward, with people constantly walking in just to grab a box of egg tarts and leave. There is not much ceremony to the experience, but that almost adds to the authenticity — it feels like a genuine local institution rather than a tourist-focused bakery. The egg tart itself was very good. The custard was smooth, silky and rich without becoming overly sweet, while the crust had that light, crumbly texture that made each bite satisfying. Fresh out of the oven, it had the kind of warmth and fragrance that immediately explains why Hong Kong egg tarts became so iconic in the first place. Simple food done properly, but sometimes that is all you really need.
