*3 stars - Food was just “so-so” for us* It was my first time here and we came during my birthday month after reading such great Google reviews. Sadly the food didn’t live up to the hype for me. *What we ordered:* 1. *Seafood tofu with cereal* - This one really missed the mark. It was pretty tasteless and the texture wasn’t great. The sweetened condensed milk they give you to drizzle didn’t work with the dish at all. We ended up relying on the chili sauce, which I think is homemade and more palatable, but still just “okay.” We couldn’t finish it. 2. *Sambal stingray* - The sambal wasn’t up to expectation. It leaned more salty than flavorful. I’ve had better elsewhere, so I wouldn’t make a special trip just for this. 3. *Sambal petai with ladyfingers* - This was okay, but the petai smell was surprisingly very low. I actually like the strong pungent smell, so that was a disappointment. 4. *Zheng Jiang pork ribs* - We added this since we were still hungry. Pretty standard. Sauce was a bit too sweet, but still passable. 5. *Garlic fried French beans* - This was the star of the meal. Really nicely done, better than most restaurants. If you come, order this one. *Overall:* Because of the misses on the main dishes, I don’t think it’s worth traveling far just for this place. If you live nearby like us, 10-15 min away, then it’s fine to drop by. But if you’re coming all the way down because of the reviews, you might be disappointed. I’ve heard their charcoal fire fish soup is the specialty, but we didn’t order it since there were only 3 of us and the pot is huge. Maybe we just picked the wrong dishes. YMMV. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–50

Please note that they have service charge and GST. The price for the food is not cheap in a eating house environment and the service charge for bringing the food to your table? Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Price per person: $20–30

Tan Xiang Chai Chee is a hidden gem that exceeded my expectations! The standout dish for me was undoubtedly their fried KangKong - crispy, flavorful, and addictively delicious. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The menu offers a variety of innovative dishes, including their signature fish steam boat, egg with clams, fried chicken and many more. What truly made our dining experience special, however, was the exceptional hospitality extended by owner/host Ben Yeo. His warm welcome and attentive service added a personal touch that made us feel so welcomed. *Must-Try Dishes:* - *Fried KangKong*: A game-changer! Crispy and flavorful, it's a dish you won't want to miss. - *Fish Steam Boat*: A signature dish that's sure to please. - *Lychee Sweet and Sour Pork*: we missed trying this, maybe will try this next round.. *Overall Experience:* Tan Xiang Chai Chee offers an outstanding dining experience with its delicious food and exceptional service. With a rating of 4.8 out of 5 on Tripadvisor, it's no wonder this restaurant is ranked among the top in Singapore.
