A timeless afternoon indulgence inside a storybook train, The Tea Carriage at InterContinental Khao Yai is pure elegance on rails. Set inside a beautifully restored vintage train carriage overlooking the peaceful Swan Lake, The Tea Carriage is easily one of the most enchanting afternoon tea venues in all of Thailand. There’s something whimsical yet sophisticated about the space, its old-world charm, plush interiors, and panoramic windows that frame the lake and surrounding greenery in such a serene, almost cinematic way. We came for the classic afternoon tea, and every detail from presentation to flavour was exceptional. The tiered stand arrived with a generous spread of sweet and savoury delights, each one beautifully crafted and inspired by a mix of local Thai flavors and European classics. Among the sweets, I absolutely adored the Mango Sticky Rice Pastry Cup, a playful, elegant take on a Thai staple, and the Victoria Chocolate Chiffon Cake, which was rich and perfectly moist. The Matcha Brownie and French Opera Cake were decadent without being too heavy, and the Coconut Choux Cream offered a delicate, creamy finish. And of course, warm, classic scones served with clotted cream and housemade jam were a comforting nod to tradition. The savouries were equally impressive, each one a little surprise of bold flavour and texture. Highlights included the Tom Yum Goong Vol-au-Vent, which packed a real punch, the Larb Gai Quiche, and the Thai Crab Yogurt Brioche that was refreshing and satisfying all at once. The Pork Belly & Mushroom Brioche? Absolutely divine. But what stole my heart was their Thai Tea Latte—aromatic, smooth, and perfectly sweet, it was the ideal pairing to bring the whole experience together. You can also elevate the tea with champagne or rosé, making it a wonderful option for special celebrations. If you’re looking for something beyond the ordinary, The Tea Carriage is not just about tea, it’s an experience. A romantic escape, a nostalgic train ride, and a culinary journey all in one. Whether you're a tea lover or simply looking for a peaceful, elegant afternoon surrounded by nature and beauty, this is a must-do in Khao Yai.
