Terrible Experience at Coffee Academics – Avoid This Place 1 star, zero apologies from rude staff and false opening hours. I showed up at exactly 8 a.m., the official opening time clearly posted on the shop window and their social media, hoping to grab a morning coffee before work. To my shock, the shop’s front door was unlocked, staff were lingering inside, yet the entire café was completely unprepared for customers. All coffee machines were off, grinders unwashed, counters cluttered with dirty cups, and none of the brewing equipment was set up. I stood waiting by the register for over ten minutes while two baristas chatted casually in the back, ignoring my presence entirely. When I politely asked if they would start taking orders soon, I was met with shockingly rude attitudes. One barista rolled their eyes, sighed loudly, and snapped that I “arrived too early” even though 8 a.m. is their stated opening hour. The other staff member cut me off mid-sentence, bluntly saying they weren’t ready and I needed to come back in another 20 minutes, with zero hint of apology for the misleading opening time. They spoke to me like I was an inconvenience disrupting their personal chat, no basic customer courtesy at all—no “sorry for the delay,” no explanation, just sharp, dismissive remarks. It’s unacceptable for a café to advertise an 8 a.m. opening if they have no intention of serving anyone until much later. What made this visit far worse was the extremely hostile service; paying customers deserve basic respect, not eye-rolling and snappy replies when we follow their listed business hours. I wasted valuable morning time and left frustrated without a single drink. I will never step foot in Coffee Academics again and strongly warn anyone needing an early coffee to pick another café with reliable hours and polite staff Meal type: Breakfast Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Lovely place to eat at Repulse Bay. Recommend sitting at the long table on entry so you can look out onto the beach whilst enjoying a coffee or some food. Service is always very prompt, and the menu offers a decent range of healthy options. Weekdays are much better given the weekends can get very crowded. I would implore those visiting to try the Manuka Coffee - hands down the best coffee I’ve had. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $150–200 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
