Last evening I enjoyed every dish prepared by the Flying Chef Simon Jr Seah. If I really have to choose 3 most unforgettable dishes they were the Kueh Pie Tee; Bakwan Kepiting; and Ayam Buah Keluak! Price per person: SGD 100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We had such a wonderful evening at Simon's home for a private Peranakan dining experience. Simon and Jeanette are both incredibly friendly and welcoming... their cosy home truly reflects the Singapore spirit, and though it was my first time there, it immediately felt like home. The food was delicious and beautifully prepared, and sharing it with church friends made the evening even more special. Between the authentic flavours, the warm hospitality, and the great conversations, it was an experience to remember. Thank you, Simon, for hosting us so graciously! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The Flying Chef Private Kitchen is the place to go for if you love traditional Peranakan food. The dishes are better than some of the peranakan restaurants in the east where the private dining is located. It is the home of Chef Simon who is also a commercial airline pilot. I personally like the Kueh Pie Tee that comes with self prepared chilli sauce. The Ayam Buah Keluak is another dish that is very nicely done as the chicken thigh is braised to perfection, with chicken meat tender and well soaked in the mildly spicy tamarind gravy. Chef Simon has used the recipes handed from his grandma. For his preparation of the dishes, he doesn’t follow a standard recipe. According to Chef Simon, each time he buys the ingredients, they may taste different and adjustments need to be made to bring out the full complexities of the dish. All the spices are painstakingly hand pound rather than using blender for rempah preparation to bring out the full texture and the aroma of the spices. The ambience is cosy with warm lighting. Table setup is nicely done with batik (similar to SQ kebaya print) tablecloth and rose folded cloth napkins (which also have nice fragrance). You will also experience the warm hospitality of Chef Simon and his wife Jeanette who shared with us how they started this private dining. Overall, you feel as if you have just experienced the business class of our national carrier, well prepared traditional cuisine by a chef with great culinary skill and warm hospitality. No issue with parking even though Chef Simon’s place is in a landed area.
