I recently dined at The Hungry Duck in Central Embassy, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable Isaan meals I’ve had in Bangkok. The restaurant offers an exciting mix of traditional flavours presented with a refined, playful twist. Every dish tasted fresh, vibrant, and thoughtfully plated — the sort of food that makes you pause before diving in. We ordered a variety of dishes, and nothing disappointed: • Som Tum Combination Platter — A burst of textures and colours. The som tum itself was perfectly balanced. • Grilled Pork Neck — Tender, juicy, with a smoky char that paired wonderfully with their dipping sauces. • Crispy Whole Fish with Cashew & Herbal Dressing — Golden and crisp outside, soft and flaky inside. The herbs, lime, and cashews lifted the dish beautifully. • Raw prawn salad — A proper Isaan-style punch: bold, spicy, and exceptionally fresh. • Fried rice with pork crackling — Comforting and indulgent, with a lovely texture contrast from the crackling. What impressed me most was how the kitchen manages to keep each dish flavour-forward without becoming overwhelmingly salty or spicy — a balance many places struggle to achieve. Service was attentive but never intrusive. The staff were cheerful, knowledgeable, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do. The atmosphere is bright, contemporary, and playful — colourful plates, fun typography, and a lively yet relaxed vibe. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a casual lunch or a leisurely dinner with friends and feel equally at home.
