A Relaxed, No‑Frills Brunch Spot Tucked away in Tai Wai, The Shack Cafe feels more like a neighbourhood hideout than a typical brunch café as it is located in a village. With leafy views outside the window, the setting is calm and unhurried, making it a pleasant place to slow down and enjoy a meal. The brunch plates are simple yet thoughtfully done. The soft scrambled eggs are the highlight which is creamy, glossy, and gently cooked, with a rich egg flavour that shows good control of heat and timing. The plate comes with generously filled wraps: one featuring smoked salmon with fresh greens, and another with a chicken-based filling. Both are neatly wrapped, easy to eat, and made with fresh ingredients that are clean-tasting rather than heavily seasoned. A small side salad adds freshness and balance, cutting through the richness of the eggs. Service-wise, this is very much a self-service, family-run style café. Don’t expect table service—you order at the counter, collect your food yourself when it’s ready, and return your tray and rubbish after finishing. The system is straightforward and matches the café’s casual, down-to-earth vibe. I had seen posts mentioning the café’s dog-bear mascot, but unfortunately didn’t get a chance to meet it this time. Still, the overall experience was pleasant and relaxed, with food that’s comforting without being heavy. All in all, The Shack Cafe is a good choice if you appreciate honest, well-prepared brunch food, a quiet environment, and don’t mind a bit of self-service. It’s not flashy, but it’s comfortable, well-executed, and worth a visit if you’re in the Tai Wai area. I’m fed up with the mall restaurant, worth giving it a try.
