What can you say about Thermae Cafe. Harks back to the 1960s when it was a favourite haunt of American GIs on R&R from the Vietnam war. Now it's freelance heaven. Whether the girls are full time freelancers or regular 9-5 girls just trying supplementing their income or simply letting their hair down, it has something for everyone. All the ladies inside are real ladies, the ladyboys remain outside in their droves as IDs are required to get in for the ladies. Basically, what you do is enter, you are directed to the bar, where you buy a drink and then you are free to roam. There could be up to 150 women of all ages (20 and over) inside and they are not pushy. I was there in January 2024 alone and the place was packed at 10pm. I was very self conscious at first. The ladies tend to talk in small groups or just stand and wait for the right guy. The idea is simply to smile, if you get one back, engage with a hello and maybe an offer of a drink. Once introductions are made, the rest is up to the pair of you. No matter what you do it's worth a visit just to say I've been there. There are YouTube videos about etiquette and reading the crowd. You can do a couple of slow laps of the bar before you feel at ease, maybe a second drink as the first is Dutch courage, then it becomes less stressful. Give it a go, it's worth it just for the experience. If at the end of the day, you think no thanks, it's cost you a drink or two and you have smiled and chatted to some nice Thai ladies. On the other hand it could be the start of an enjoyable evening. No pressure, no commitment, no bar fines. Trust me, in the days, weeks and years to come it will make you smile.
