When the sushi chef comes to your table personally to get your order right, you know the service will be next level. Nestled amongst eclectic cafes, bistros, and boutiques, Uncle Hong’s Chobab is a true gem especially if you know what to order. For the adventurous who like varied textures and flavors, try one of the sets - they are great value for the types of sushi you will be served such as Toro and Abalone (for the premium set at 30,000 won). The sushi is cut generously with a fish-to-rice ratio over 2x. The chef sneaks onto your plate bonus “service” sashimi of tuna and salmon. For those who prefer a singular flavor, there is the hwedupbab, or Korean-style Poke bowl. There is tuna, salmon, and halibut, or a combo of all three. They use fresh sashimi-quality slices of rich blue fin for the tuna hwedupbab served in a family-sized wooden bowl. With a mixed Euro salad on top of a bed of rice, you can have a light or full meal. For 18,000 won (around $13), this dish sets the standard for amazing value. Spend half a day in this delightful neighborhood visiting the many venues, streets lit up at night, and a nearby river promenade for an after meal romantic stroll.
