Outstanding breakfast, excellent coffee and genuinely sweet service I stopped by VAREN for breakfast and ended up being genuinely impressed. I ordered the breakfast plate with omelette, ham, roasted tomatoes, salad and a croissant. Everything was fresh, well prepared and beautifully presented. It was simple food, but done properly, and the portion was more than enough to start the day. The real highlight was the iced tiramisu coffee. It was rich, creamy and almost like having coffee and dessert at the same time, without becoming overly sweet. It was honestly one of the most enjoyable coffee drinks I have had on this trip. I also ordered a latte, which was excellent — smooth, well balanced and beautifully presented with impressive latte art. It was served properly with a glass of water on the side, which was a nice touch. The staff seemed a little nervous when I started speaking English, and they laughed shyly among themselves for a moment, but it came across as sweet rather than uncomfortable. They were genuinely friendly, polite and did their best to make me feel welcome. The café itself is modern, clean and comfortable, with a calm atmosphere and very welcome air-conditioning after walking around Bangkok. VAREN is definitely at the more expensive end compared with small local cafés, but the quality of the food, the coffee and the overall experience justified the price for me. A really enjoyable stop and one of the best café breakfasts I have had during this trip. Highly recommended, especially for the iced tiramisu coffee.
