Came here for dinner with a friend and I really loved the ambience. The place feels cosy and comfortable, making it a nice spot to unwind and chat over a meal. I had the seafood chilli padi pasta, and honestly it was not too bad. Initially, I expected it to taste like a typical aglio olio, but it actually had a nice Asian twist. It was pretty spicy, yet still within a tolerable range for me. My friend ordered the bolognese, which was decent as well. The pasta was cooked al dente, and despite being cafe priced, the portion was quite filling, at least for me. We also shared a carnivore pizza. I really liked the crust, but I felt the toppings could be improved. It seemed like they just added different types of meat together without much synergy, more like a simple combination rather than something that elevates the flavour. That said, it was still alright overall. In general, Van Kafe is a pleasant place with good vibes and decent food, suitable for a relaxed dinner or casual catch up. Had a mother’s day meal at Van Kafe and it exceeded all my expectations. I last came to the area a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised with how the decor has changed. The vibes were perfect for a classy family or couple dinner. The pet friendly area was thoughtfully decked out with air coolers, mosquito coils and even a phone charging station. Even our dogs seemed impressed! Our server, JK, was excellent. He made the effort to describe each dish and offered us exceptional hospitality. His attentiveness and warm nature really left a great impression on my family. The food didn’t disappoint as well. The menu featured both Western and Eastern dishes which were both done equally well. The kecap manis tofu was delightfully crisp and coated in sauce that was well balanced in sweet and spice. The carbonara truffle pizza delivered aromatic umami flavours without venturing into “jelak” territory. The laksa was super rich and perfectly sinful.
