If you're looking for the kind of nostalgic home-cooked food that reminds you of your mum's cooking, this is the place to be. The staff speak Cantonese, and it was quite amusing that every time I spoke Mandarin, they replied in Cantonese instead . It added to the authentic and homely atmosphere. The wok hei here is outstanding, and every dish is packed with flavour. What made the experience even more memorable was seeing the chef cooking while happily whistling away in the kitchen. You could genuinely feel the joy, pride and passion behind every dish being prepared. As I enjoyed the meal, I couldn't help but notice that the owners are getting older, and there doesn't seem to be a second generation taking over the business. It made me reflect on a challenge faced by many traditional family-run businesses, business continuity. So much knowledge, craftsmanship and heritage have been built over decades, yet without succession planning, these culinary treasures risk disappearing one day. It would be a real loss for future generations if such authentic flavours and stories were not preserved. Personally, I would highly recommend dining in rather than taking away, as packed food simply doesn't do justice to the chef's creations. The food is best enjoyed fresh from the wok, exactly as intended. More than just a meal, this was a nostalgic journey back to childhood — a reminder that great food is not only about taste, but also about the people, passion and legacy behind it. Was at Jalan Batu hawker centre for Blackgoat and there were only a handful of stalls that were open, Victory Canton Wok being one of them. Curiosity got the better of me as I observed the stream of customers heading to the stall. I decided to open google maps and saw most of the reviews recommending their prawn paste chicken (har cheong gai). Thus, I decided to get some while waiting for Blackgoat. Ordered 6 pieces ($7.20) and the staff brought it over to my table. This is one of the more memorable har cheong gai I had in recent years; you can really smell and taste the har cheong. I would want to return to try their other dishes. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: SGD 1–10 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
