The story goes: There was a family opposite our table and they had a kid. The kid soon started playing on her phone with the volume on. It wasn’t overwhelmingly annoying at first but after awhile the sound from the phone keeps coming around even with the noise from the surrounding. So my partner called a ‘waiter’ and asked for the most senior person/manager, but the waiter insisted he was senior enough. When told of the situation, he was unable to accept it and counter argued with my partner.
Seeing the argument, I stepped in to say ‘all we want is for the volume to be lowered’ which he suddenly agreed to and said he will talk to the family about it. But he never did, instead went to a fellow colleague and told of a “problematic customer” and that second ‘waiter’ came around and started arguing with us, making excuses pointing to why our argument is invalid saying how “those are regulars, so we can’t say anything to them”. My partner used an example to explain the restaurant’s standard of how coming with shorts and slippers would be turned away therefore, a child playing their phone loudly should be told to tone down as well.
This explanation was responded with ‘how these days SG is too hot so many people wear slippers’. ???? I don’t even know what is going through this person’s mind at this point and said this person also said “I learnt something new today”.
My point is, we weren’t dining at food court paying $5-$10. WAKANUI is a restaurant that will charge about $300-$500 for your dinning experience at their restaurant. So, where’s the standard?
