During a scorching afternoon in Fanling, I stopped by [Wing Nin Noodle (永年士多)located inside the historic Luen Wo Market. Famous for its storied legacy of Yuen Long-style cart noodles, this branch nicely blends nostalgic old-Hong Kong design elements with a clean, fully air-conditioned space—making it an ideal refuge from the outdoor heat wave. While most people flock here for their signature spicy curry broth and classic toppings like tender pig intestines or braised radish, my highlight of the day was their specialty drink: the matcha red bean ice. Traditional red bean ice is a staple across local Cha Chaan Tengs, but Wing Nin’s version introduces a modern twist. The beverage arrived beautifully layered, topped with a generous mound of crushed ice. The red beans buried at the bottom were perfectly plump, sweet, and soft without being overly mushy. What truly elevated the drink was the earthy addition of green tea. The slight bitterness of the matcha cut right through the rich sweetness of the red beans, creating a highly balanced flavor profile. As I find myself rather strapped for cash, I must say their cart noodles seem rather dear. Furthermore, being accustomed to another cart noodles stall, I can’t help but presume their noodles might not be up to par. If you haven’t tried them yet, mind you, but perhaps they’re worth a go. That said, I very much doubt I shall become a regular patron! Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $50–100 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3
