Recently stayed at this location during a 2 week trip to Japan, and could not have had a more pleasant experience. Super professional, friendly staff. Very good breakfast each morning. I was very surprised at the quality of the rooms. Even though this is technically considered a hostel, the rooms are honestly on par with a hotel. WPU Hakone also has a onsen for guests to use, which is a special type of hot springs with numerous health benefits (supposedly). I used the onsen both nights I was here, but made sure to go late at night to have it all to myself. They have boxes you can place person items in. The only thing to be weary of as a tourist is that Hakone is a little isolated in the mountains. It’s a bit of a walk to the nearest convenience store if you need anything, and some of the buses here can be a little unreliable and hard to navigate. There were multiple times I was told by Google Maps a bus would arrive at a certain stop, only for no bus to arrive at all. This made it difficult to check out all the places I had on my itinerary within the 2 days I was here. I’d definitely plan to spend more time here if you want to check out all the main spots. Also expect crowds at most attractions such as Hakone Shrine, any views of Mt Fuji, etc as this whole area is incredibly tourist heavy, especially in the summer months. That being said, the quality of this hostel, WPU Hakone, more than made up for any transportation or crowd issues. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Service: 5
