Tried this place recently and was pleasantly surprised. The curry is really good, rich, flavourful, and definitely on the spicy side, which I enjoyed. The chicken was tender and cooked just right, making the dish even better. I also ordered the yuan yang. It leans a bit too sweet for my taste, but it’s aromatic and works quite well when served iced. The atmosphere is pretty standard for a normal eatery, simple, no-frills setup. It’s self-service, and there’s no GST or service charge, which is a nice plus if you’re looking for an affordable meal. They also have a wide variety of other local delights on the menu, so there’s plenty more to try. Definitely will be back to explore the rest. Wanted a coffee after a meal. Spotted this new cafe at Sunshine Plaza. The hot coffee is great and priced like foodcourt price. As for the toast, it is above average and the kaya is worth mentioning. One must eat the toast fast enough before it turns soft. The staff was super friendly and served us our coffee n toast during their off peak hours. At Wanglee Café Bencoolen, our order was a fun mix of local comfort and playful twists. The Chilli Ban Mee arrived piping hot, with springy noodles well-coated in a fragrant, savoury chilli sauce. It had a gentle kick rather than an aggressive burn, making it satisfying without overwhelming the palate. Topped with minced meat, crispy ikan bilis, and a soft egg, the dish felt hearty and homely—simple ingredients done right, and perfect for anyone craving a no-frills noodle fix. The kaya toast was a nostalgic highlight. Lightly toasted bread with crisp edges hugged a generous layer of fragrant kaya and cold butter that melted slowly with the heat. Each bite balanced sweetness and richness beautifully, especially when paired with coffee. It’s the kind of classic breakfast item that never gets old. Then came the conversation starter: Volcano Kopi. Visually striking, it lived up to its name with a dramatic presentation and a bold coffee aroma. The kopi itself was strong, robust, and slightly smoky, offering a deeper flavour than your usual cup. Together, the meal captured Wanglee Café’s charm—familiar local tastes with a touch of personality, making it a relaxed and memorable stop near Bencoolen.
