Wheeler's Yard is not worth the travel.
Firstly, their location is very much off the usual cafe-hopping spots of Tiong Bahru / HollandV / Thompson. On top of that, the warehouse that the cafe is situated in is very easy to miss.
If that's not enough to deter you, lets move on to the food. For mains, we ordered a chilli crab pasta as well as the beef rice bowl. The beef rice bowl was only average at best and pales in comparison to places like Tanuki Raw. The chilli crab pasta was no better. The pasta sauce tasted like it was straight out of a can and it was too sweet; almost like what you expect from a really bad kids meal. We also ordered their Truffle Fries and Waffles + icecream/fruit combo. The Truffle Fries was very clearly not an original kitchen recipe. For context, imagine you buy a big bag of frozen fries (the HUGE kind, not the skinny fries) from NTUC. Before even thawing it properly, you dump the whole bag into the fryer and just throw some truffle on it afterwards. The waffle was the biggest disappointment. It was just some heated up eggo's mixed with some cheap ice cream + cut strawberries.
On the service, let's just say I've had better service from Hawker Centre aunties & uncles (and I pay them less for the food too). We were served by someone who was clearly not well-trained/supervised in F&B. Simple things like receiving/giving back the credit card with two hands were not seen that day. He also did not bother to go through the bill with us or confirm our orders. His overall attitude was very lacklustre and he seemed more intent on staring into space than doing his job.
I have to give credit where its due though - the ambience really does somewhat make up for it. Plenty of instagram-able spots if you're into that kind of stuff.
Overall, very disappointing experience for a place that charges ~$25 per pax (that's if you order economically). Will definitely not return.
