If you’re looking for an authentic Kyoto experience, this is it. Tucked away down a quiet back alley, White Door is the definition of a hidden gem. With only six seats, it feels more like you’re hanging out in a friend’s living room than at a bar. The bartender was incredible—welcoming, friendly, and made everyone feel at home. Throughout the night we talked about everything and anything with both locals and fellow travelers, and by the end it felt like we’d known each other for years. Some of our favorite memories from Kyoto were made here. If you can find it, don’t pass it up. It was the perfect little hole-in-the-wall and an unforgettable experience. I had so much fun here. Masa, the owner, is a cool guy. His Santory whiskey based cocktails are a bomb. Also his sake-based ones hahah. Really recommended. Price per person: ¥2,000–3,000
