Yesterday I visited J Space to run some errands and noticed a lively and inviting sign for Yak Kao Yak Nam, located just across the street. The place looked busy and full of energy, so I decided to drive over and give it a try. Parking was very convenient, with a wide open area right in front of the restaurant. The interior is beautifully decorated and surprisingly cozy. It genuinely feels like being invited to a friend’s house for a dinner party. The staff welcomed me warmly and let me choose any seat I liked. Ordering is modern and convenient, with a QR code placed on the table for digital ordering. For customers who prefer to order directly, there is also a full menu book available. Every dish comes with a clear photo, and the menu is presented in three languages: Thai, English, and Chinese. Each item also has a number, making ordering incredibly simple and stress-free. The drink selection is impressive. Behind the counter, several tall refrigerators are neatly filled with a wide variety of beverages. You can order drinks through the QR code or walk up, pick your drink yourself, and inform the staff at the counter. This flexibility makes the whole experience feel easy and relaxed. One thing I really appreciated was the open kitchen concept. You can see the chefs preparing food both inside and outside the kitchen area. It shows how confident they are about cleanliness and their cooking process. And I have to add this honestly: the chef and his assistants look like models. Stylish, clean, and very professional. The restaurant also offers a self-serve vegetable station, especially perfect for dishes like larb. You can pick as much as you like, and it’s completely free. While waiting for the food, they serve complimentary rice crackers with chili paste. It instantly reminded me of Texas Roadhouse in the U.S., where they offer free bread while you wait. A very thoughtful touch. Food service here is impressively fast. All dishes arrived almost at the same time, so there was no waiting around or eating in stages. Every dish I ordered was delicious. I tried the restaurant’s signature dish, Yum Yak Kao Yak Nam, a chef’s special, and it was outstanding; crispy, fragrant with roasted chili, larb spices, and herbs. The grilled ribs were tender and flavorful, served with a fantastic dipping sauce. The Kaeng Om Moo was rich, aromatic, and perfect with sticky rice. The Yum Kor Moo Yang was another highlight, with fresh lemongrass adding brightness and aroma. Every dish truly impressed me, and there are still many more menu items I haven’t tried yet. I will definitely be returning. Yak Kao Yak Nam is the perfect place to bring friends for a meal, drinks, and long conversations. The atmosphere is fun and inviting, the staff are friendly, the food is excellent, and the location is very convenient. The restaurant sits directly across from J Space community mall and the well-known Ohkajhu restaurant, making it super easy to find. A highly recommended spot for anyone who loves great food, great vibes, and a memorable dining experience in Chiang Mai.
