I finally visited Yongmaru, the place I missed the absolute most while living abroad! Honestly, I don't think you can find such a wide variety of perfectly prepared, seasonal namul (vegetable side dishes) anywhere else in Korea. The seasoning is spot on—not overpowering at all. My absolute favorite is the Deodeok gui (grilled root vegetables)—you just have to taste it to understand! My husband's top pick was the Dotorimuk muchim (acorn jelly salad). I actually tried making it myself with acorn powder back in Toronto lol, but that was a total fail... It's definitely a must-eat whenever we come to Korea. If you're bringing kids, you have to order the Gamjajeon (potato pancake). Since our boys are a bit older now, we ordered the half-and-half pancake so we could enjoy both the savory potato and the slightly spicy acorn pancakes together. The seasonal namul set meal is almost out of season now, but every other dish is just as delicious. If you want a proper, hearty meal, I highly recommend Yongmaru! It's the perfect spot if you're looking to enjoy a nice walk around Namhansanseong Fortress followed by some truly authentic Korean food. Meal type: Lunch

5 star experience. We didn't book (but seemed like everyone else did!) - so if you want to come here, I suggest reserving in advance. Everyone very friendly. Now on the 4th generation of the family serving these dishes, the youngest of whom spoke great English and explained the menu to us. The mushroom banchan was delicious. Chicken porridge soup also.
