Zab Isaan is located near Phuket International Airport along the main road. I came here for an early lunch around 10am and had to wait about 10 minutes because the staff were still preparing the food for the day. We were a bit early. The restaurant seemed to be run by a group of young girls. A few spoke limited English, but they were incredibly warm and helpful. We mostly understood each other through smiles and simple gestures, and honestly, that became part of the charm of the experience. The restaurant is fully open-air with no indoor seating or AC, so be prepared for the Phuket heat and humidity if you go during the afternoon. Thankfully, there are fans above the tables which helped a bit. We ordered the Thai-style fried chicken wings, deep fried pork, tom yum soup, and crab fried rice. The fried chicken wings and pork arrived piping hot. Both were lightly battered — not thick, greasy, or heavy. The coating was airy, crispy, and delicate while the meat inside stayed moist and juicy. The chicken wings especially stood out. Crispy outside, juicy inside, and clearly fried fresh to order. But the real star of the meal was the nam jim jaew dipping sauce that came with the fried items. Sour, salty, spicy, tangy — it completely woke up the palate and elevated everything it touched. It was so good that we asked for extra just to pour over the crab fried rice. The tom yum soup leaned rich and creamy from the coconut milk while still delivering that signature balance of spice and sourness. Everything felt bold, fresh, and comforting without trying too hard. Despite the heat, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The prices were very reasonable and didn’t feel touristy at all. The restaurant had a relaxed local atmosphere, and the kindness of the staff made the meal even more memorable. I would absolutely come back, but next time I’d visit around late afternoon or early evening instead of lunch. This feels like the perfect place to sit outside around sunset with hot crispy wings, fried pork, cold beers, and good conversation while the weather cools down a bit. Good vibes. Called in for dinner one night and returned the following evening as it was so good. The steamed fish in lemon sauce was epic and the green chicken curry is up there with the best that I have ever had. Prices for wine and the food were very reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient. The waitress even gave us a slice of her birthday cake. Would love to return. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
