Food was great. We had the XO fried rice, the caramelised eggplant, the jackfruit prawns, the French beans and Yong Tau Foo. All good. Maybe the eggplant was maybe a tad sweet, a little contrast with spicy hae bee or fried shallots or just tiny cuts of chilli would have been perfect. The jackfruit prawns were epic. The sauce they came in was divine enough to eat on its own. The jackfruit was a lovely surprise, not overwhelming and complementary to the prawns. There’s a promo on beer, two pints for $12. So the service - we went on a rainy day. I asked to sit inside but all tables were “reserved”. So we sat outside where an awning sheltered us from the pitter patter. When the rain got worse, no one came to ask if we were ok. We shifted the table away from the splashes that came off the inadequate awning to prevent getting more wet. The inside of the restaurant still had unoccupied tables then. We didn’t stay for dessert. A different way to enjoy yee shang during CNY. Great option if you can’t eat raw salmon — they use fresh fruits instead, which makes it refreshing and unique. Definitely worth a try. It’s a fusion restaurant with a good variety of dishes and interesting flavours. Something a little different from the usual. Visited on 13 July 2025, 12pm – Reservation for 8 pax This was my second visit to Zing by Xi Yan, having previously dined at their Shaw House outlet. I requested for less oil and salt in the dishes, and the kitchen delivered beautifully—food was flavourful! We ordered (all small portions): Hakka abacus seed XO fried radish cake Hakka-style fried lao shu fen Pork leg vinegar Baked salt chicken full portion Hakka niang tofu (6 pcs) Green dragon vegetable with garlic Egg tofu in mapo sauce Portions were just right for 7 (inclusive of one kid), with a little leftover to enjoy. Service and ambience were top-notch. The team was attentive, and special thanks to the manager for going the extra mile—splitting the whole chicken into two plates for easier sharing across our long table, and plating our birthday cake, along with providing us with clean, warm plates. These thoughtful touches really stood out. Prices are reasonable considering the quality, variety and top notch service that was rendered. I also really appreciate the management’s inclusiveness in hiring staff within the disadvantage community space. It reflects a strong sense of social responsibility, and it was heartening to see everyone working together so seamlessly. Kudos to the entire team and store manager on duty! Will definitely return again. If you're in the area, you must give this place a try and support this wonderful local business—you won’t be disappointed!
