We have visited this cafe several times before, sometimes with laptops and sometimes without. During one of our previous visits, an older gentleman, who appeared to be the owner or manager, spoke to us quite rudely when asking us to move to another table. At the time, we assumed that might simply be his manner and did not think much of it. On our most recent visit, we noticed a sign written in Korean stating that laptops could only be used for two hours. We assumed this rule was intended to prevent customers from occupying a table for a long time after placing only one order, so we thought we could continue using our laptops if we placed another order after two hours. However, the same gentleman told us, again in a very rude manner, that we had to close our laptops after two hours regardless of whether we ordered anything else. Since he said we could remain seated after closing them, we could not really understand the purpose of the rule. They could either prohibit laptops entirely or clearly explain the usage policy in English as well as Korean. Regardless of the rule, customers should be treated more politely and given a clear explanation. His attitude was very unpleasant, and after this experience, we do not think we will visit this cafe again.

I’ve been to this café a few times because it’s close to where I live. The café itself nice but unfortunately our experience with the man I assume was the owner/manager was very unpleasant. The staff could also improve their service when compared with other cafés in the area. We went there as three friends to have coffee and work for a while, so we brought our laptops with us. We each ordered a drink and a dessert, so we were not simply sitting there without purchasing anything. After a while, a man wearing glasses, who I assume was the owner/manager, came over and pointed to a notice behind us. The notice was written only in Korean, and there was no English explanation. He then spoke to us in English and told us that laptop use was limited to two hours. The rule itself is one thing, but the way he spoke to us was unnecessarily rude and condescending. We explained that we understood if there was a time limit and even offered to order something else, thinking perhaps the issue was that we had been sitting for too long without spending enough. However he made it clear that it had nothing to do with ordering more we simply had to stop using our laptops after two hours. I understand that cafés can have their own rules, and businesses obviously need to manage their space. But if a rule is important enough to confront customers about, it should be communicated clearly, especially in a café located in a tourist area. A notice written only in Korean is easy for international customers to miss or not understand, and there was no polite explanation when we were approached. It also made the rule itself feel quite unreasonable. How exactly are you supposed to keep track of two hours? If someone leaves and comes back later does the two hour limit reset? If laptop use is restricted, it would make much more sense to clearly communicate that from the beginning rather than approaching customers afterward in such a rude manner. The café itself is not bad, but the way we were treated completely changed our impression. Unfortunately, because of this experience and the service, I don’t think I’ll be coming back.
