Me and my partner are English and on a tour of Japan. We went on a Tuesday night, which is very quiet in Takayama, as I believe it is one of the locals' rest days. It is only a small bar that would feel quite busy with only around 10 people. It was only us and two local Japanese guys at the bar. The two ladies working at the bar were super welcoming and very understanding when we couldn't speak Japanese and they couldn't speak much English. They went to the effort of asking us about our trip and giving us recommendations on where to go using a translator. They were trying to explain local food to us and in the end the local guys ordered us a pickle steak to try. They also gave us some sake to try. Both were really tasty. A lovely experience and we intended on going back the following night, but they didn't open until late and we had an early start to catch a train the following morning. Thank you to the Cocone staff for a lovely and memorable evening. Oh and drinks were a fairly standard price, but that wasn't really what we were worried about!
