4月半ばの日曜日に訪問。１１時丁度に来店しました。運よくスグ席に着けましたがもう少し遅いと待ち時間があったようです。食事は美味しく手ごろなお値段でした。そして何より女将さんの人当たりがよく、気遣いも有難かった。外国人の友人を連れて行ったのですが、英語メニューがあり助かりました。店内は古民家を改装した作りで落ち着けました。また今度、平日にゆっくりと訪問したいです。. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: ¥1–1,000 Recommended dishes: ざるうどん&とり天セット, のうどんセット

We visited udon & cafe 麺喰, a restaurant that is 10 - 15mins walk away from Todai-ji temple. It’s slightly further away from the city centre and it’s mainly visited by locals. The restaurant is run by a couple - the lady takes the orders while the gentleman cooks. We were the only visitors who were there for lunch. But do not fear as there is English menu. Also, the lady speaks English simple enough that makes communications easy! The udon is only made upon order - the gentleman would be kneading and cutting the dough in the kitchen before he cooks the udon noodles in boiling water. This also means some waiting time is expected. We ordered the udon set, the beancurd skin udon, and the beef udon. The udon set comprises of udon, tempura and mochi desserts. The udon itself was very tender and it complements extremely well with the savoury soup. We would honestly say the udon was one of the most memorable ones we have eaten. Beancurd skin was smooth, albeit slightly on the sweeter side. Regarding the tempura, we’re really not too sure what’s that fried leaf was, but that was absolutely tasty! Prawn tempura was fresh as well, and seafood (prawn? and squid) roll was absolutely delicious. However, we felt that the chicken tempura has a much thicker batter, and was slightly more greasy than we have expected. All in all, it’s still an extremely satisfying meal! It’s a cash-only restaurant so please do take note. The restaurant might also close earlier than expected if owners think that they are running out of capacity.
