Absolutely delicious seafood. The best sashimi I've had since leaving Japan. Great local Thai atmosphere. And Carabao Dunkel is the best Thai beer.

Maha Chai Seafood is truly a rare gem in the heart of Chiang Mai, a city where exceptional seafood is not something you easily expect to find in this northern, landlocked landscape. From the moment the dishes arrived, it was clear that freshness is their top priority. The restaurant offers an impressive variety of raw and cooked seafood, and every item tasted clean, sweet, and wonderfully prepared. The chef is incredibly talented, turning simple ingredients into dishes that feel both comforting and special. Each meal was full of flavor without being overwhelming, showing great balance and confidence in technique. You can tell that real care goes into every plate, whether it’s grilled, fried, or served raw. It feels like discovering a hidden coastal kitchen tucked away in the city center—an unexpected but very welcome surprise for seafood lovers in Chiang Mai. I highly recommend the grilled shrimp, which were perfectly cooked with a smoky aroma and juicy texture, as well as the oyster fried dish that was crispy on the outside and rich inside. The fried fish was another standout, fresh and flavorful without being greasy, and there are many more dishes worth trying on the menu. What makes this place even more impressive is the portion size and price: servings are generous and surprisingly affordable for the quality and freshness you get. It’s rare to find seafood this good at such reasonable prices, especially so far from the coast. Maha Chai Seafood feels like a place you want to return to again and again, whether for a casual meal or a special craving for truly good seafood. If you are in Chiang Mai and want to experience fresh, delicious seafood without traveling south, this restaurant is absolutely worth a visit.
