I really wanted to love this place, because the location is honestly hard to beat. On Phi Phi, sitting right on the beach with your feet in the sand is about as good as it gets. The setting is absolutely beautiful and easily the main reason to come here. Unfortunately, almost everything else feels like it is running on resort autopilot. The staff seemed to have mastered the art of looking busy while doing absolutely nothing. Getting service felt less like ordering at a bar and more like trying to flag down a rescue boat. You practically have to wave your arms like you are stranded at sea just to get someone’s attention, while they somehow manage to avoid eye contact with Olympic-level precision. The drinks were okay, but “okay” is not exactly what you hope for in a place with this kind of setting. The happy hour concept also makes zero sense. Why do I need to order two of the exact same drink if they are the same price anyway? Is this a cocktail promotion or a logic test? The frozen daiquiri was another mystery. I am still trying to understand how something labeled “frozen” arrived feeling like it had been gently cooled in 24-degree ocean water. Impressive in its own strange way. The food was the low point for me. I definitely would not eat here again. And then there is the bathroom. Let’s put it this way: only go if it is a true emergency. It was one of the dirtiest bathrooms I came across on the island, and it gave the strong impression that nobody cares. This place has huge potential because the location is fantastic. But great views can only carry a bar so far. Management seriously needs to train the service staff or replace them with people who actually want to be there. My experience at Rom Mai restaurant was nothing short of a disaster. From the moment we stepped through the door, it was clear that Som, the waitress, had no interest in providing even basic customer service. She was rude, dismissive, and seemed annoyed by our presence. The food was a whole other nightmare. Not only was it poorly prepared and lacking in flavor, but to our shock, some dishes were tainted with mold. When we brought this to Som's attention, she brushed us off as if it were no big deal. No apology, no attempt to make things right. To make matters worse, shortly after eating at Rom Mai, my entire party came down with food poisoning. It was a miserable experience that ruined our evening and left us feeling physically ill for days afterward. In summary, Rom Mai is a disgrace of a restaurant. With abysmal service from Som and food that's not only unappetizing but also hazardous to your health, there's absolutely no reason to subject yourself to such a dreadful dining experience. Steer clear of Rom Mai unless you enjoy disappointment and stomachaches. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Order type: Dine in Meal type: Dinner
